Combining quirky missions and mysterious conspiracies, Psychonauts 2 is a platform-adventure game with cinematic style and tons of customizable psychic powers. Psychonauts 2 is a platform-adventure game with cinematic style and tons of customizable psychic powers.
Psychonauts 2 serves up danger, excitement and laughs in equal measure as players guide Raz on a journey through the minds of friends and foes on a quest to defeat a murderous psychic villain.
Creative process
Taking inspiration from the out-of-this-world Psychonauts 2 elements, we created a design embellished with a spatial motif decorated with eyeballs on the bottom of the Xbox. A rainbow intercuts the midsection of the Xbox before evolving into odd green brick walls, featuring the Psychonauts 2 logo and a swordfish.
Atop the custom console is a removable ominous pyramid that stares back at your soul, adorned with a cryptic giant eye. Dazzling-eyed blackberries erupt from the higher half of the console to add in the hypnotic weirdness so appreciated from the Psychonauts universe.
Finally, the controller design takes the galactic motif and hand-crafted (and hand-painted) rainbow from the console, switching from green to yellow on wavy lines.
The custom Psychonauts 2 Xbox Series X served as a deliciously exclusive prize for a Microsoft Rewards giveaway.
One thing’s for sure: we had a hell of a good time bringing this beauty to reality, from the early stages of design till the end of the assembly phase!
